No Friday prayers allowed in historic Jamia amid curbs in Old city | KNO

Funeral prayers for militants, civilians offered in many parts of Valley; colleges remain closed; Shopian, Pulwama shutdown unabated

Authorities disallowed prayers on Friday at historic Jamia Masjid in the old city where restrictions were imposed within the jurisdictions of five police stations to prevent prayers in absentia for thirteen people killed in south Kashmir recently.

At the same time, people offered the prayers in absentia at several places in south Kashmir and parts of Srinagar on the call by Joint Resistance Leadership.

Even as the strike continued in Pulwama and Shopian districts. Undeclared restrictions were imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of police stations Khanyar, Nowhatta, MR Gung, Safa Kadal and Rainwari. No Friday prayers were allowed at historic Jamia Masjid at Nowhatta. Schools falling within the areas also remain closed while colleges in entire Srinagar and most of the other parts of the Valley also remained shut for the fifth consecutive day.

Sources said that prayers in absentia were offered in many parts of south Kashmir and Maisuma, Barzulla and other of Srinagar. Meanwhile, reports of minor clashes were received from Trehgam Kupwara and Foot Bridge Parimpora. Meanwhile strike continued in Shopian and Pulwama districts against the recent killings of militants and civilians.
